Re: Show me your Gimcrack
Since there may be a return to some Gimcrack wars on the next TVR Podcast so I thought I'd start us off on the right foot with some serious nonsense I picked up over the last two weeks:
1. This first item is a Canadian Gift Wrap Set featuring everything you need to adorn a gift with in order to let your child know that you love them. This particular item was produced by R.F.I. Industries, located in Montreal, Quebec. Chewie says GRONK, this is special.
2. This second item is one of those fairly common activities & learning books except this one is completely in French and was printed by Editions Heritage (The same publisher of the Quebec exclusive Marvel Star Wars comics) I didn't know this existed until today so I picked it up right away for 5 Canadian dollars.
3. Lastly, I thought I'd share some Canadian Serviettes which I've already shared in Latest Pickups. Not much else to say about this.

Yeah, I was pretty excited to see that gift wrap set. It was newly put out at a flea market stall that sells exclusively Star Wars. Had I not bought it, it may have been sold, opened and used this year!
I`m sure you guys have a couple oddball things you haven't posted, right?!

Luckily for me, the Anakin toothbrush might not have been available in Canada. And doesn't qualify for my collection.
Good luck in the hunt for it Rich.

Re: Show me your Gimcrack
I saw an Anakin brush sell for $100 USD at the Cincinnati toy show lol didn’t last long. I also heard there is no Canadian version of that one.

I'll have to ask around. I wasn't listed on the SWCA under Canadian toothbrushes.

Where did you find it?
I got it pretty cheap on Ebay
I am 99 % sure it is a homemade item and it was made with a towel

Nice.
It makes sense that it would be made with a towel. I couldn't find any sort of pillows in my book.
I'll see if I can find a picture of the towel, and post it up tomorrow.

I haven't been able to find any beach towel, hand towel, wash cloth, etc..., that is even close to that.

Re: Show me your Gimcrack
It looks familiar to me. It’s probably just a little piece off the corner of a towel or smaller pice made of the same material.
I’ll take a look too but if you haven’t found it already, I sure it’s not gonna be easy.
I’ve got a remarkable piece of gimcrack on the way (and I feel totally confident with that bold claim ) should have it within a couple days.

The copyright is identical to the style used on other vintage towels I have seen but I can't seem to find any photos that match the pattern of the cloth used for the pillow either
Still been looking but haven't found a exact match yet . The majority of the towel sets from 1977 / 1978 I have seen have a red Star Wars logo but I found this hand towel that I am starting to think might be the set the Vader cloth used for the pillow came from …

There was usually a large towel , a hand towel and a wash cloth in the vintage towel sets so the pillow may have been made with one of them .

Re: Show me your Gimcrack
Recently while searching Ebay I came across a Frisbee that I had never seen before . This was the sellers auction description and photo :
1977 White Luke Skywalker , promotional item made for Der Wienerschitzel restaurant . 9 1/4" Frisbee type Flying Disk , 1 of 12 made .
[600][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][/600]
I took a chance at buying and got it for the minimum bid of $34.95 . When it arrived it looked like this :
[700][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][/700]
The seller shipped it in a oversized bubble envelope with one small piece of cardboard and wrapped in a 1/2 sheet of newspaper
needless to say I received a full refund and luckily the seller didn't want it back . I have done my best to piece it back together …
[700][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][/700]
Although it's far from perfect , I felt it was better then throwing it away
I have no idea how accurate the sellers description / history is and , so far , have not been able to find any info on it - not even another photo
Any additional information would be most welcome

Re: Show me your Gimcrack
Follow Up …
I just messaged the seller :
Hi again - 1st off , Thank you very much for the refund . I would leave you positive feedback but it doesn't seem Ebay will let me . I wanted to let you know that I spent about 4 hours piecing it back together the best I could , it seems a shame to just throw away what may be a pretty rare item (pic attached) . I do a lot of research on oddball vintage Star Wars merchandise and to my amazement , so far I have not been able to find any info or even another picture . I was wondering where you got your info from and/or if you know anything else about the Der wiener promotion ? You said it was 1 of 12 - do you mean there were 12 different designs or that there was only 12 of the Luke frisbee made ?
Sorry for so many questions - LOL !
Thanks again and Take care - james
His Answer :
Hi, James, a relative worked there, in California, during the initial Star Wars craze , his boss had these made , only 12 total , locally, the owner of der wienerschnitzel must have known, he could not use George Lucas's images, When Bill comes to pick his check up , I'll ask , if he knows more about the images of the frisbees. Thanks, Rick.
I'm really glad I didn't just throw it away now
