That's my favourite part of the movies the creature fx are always top notch, love wolf to, I started a sculpt of him a few years ago, never finished it sadly,

Re: grinchys star wars props
Thats so awesome man, Sideshow has a life size bust of him on display at SDCC, but its around 2 grand, very tempting, I think it says a lot about a person if they have a life size snarling predator head in their home
I like yours in the way that it looks like a design piece or something from part way through the process at a creature shop for the film. I've got a crew mug from that film, it was being shot in Vancouver around the time I was in school there. On the crew mug it just says "AVP2"
If you did decide to complete it down the road, is there any issues with the materials drying up etc? It looks amazing.

Cheers mate, I've seen the sideshow version, very nice piece, your crew mug sounds good, this one I did was around halfway done and I went on holiday came back and it had fallen over on the face smooshing the sculpture, bugger!
This clay was WED clay the same stuff the Disney people use, I use it a lot, you have to cover it when not working as its water based clay and will dry out, but its great stuff

Re: grinchys star wars props
Haven't posted my work in a while,. this is based on the movie Constantine, the half head demon, nearly done just got to make a base for it, heres the bust starting from reference pic, through sculpture to finished bust
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
rough sculpture
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
a bit more work
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
final sculpture ready for moulding
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
from the sculpture I made a two part plaster mould, then I popped it apart, cleaned out the clay and the mould was ready for rubber
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
heres the mould skinned with rubber, after this I clamp the two halves together and fill it with a two part soft expanding foam, I then pop the mould apart and pull the foam head out, trim the seam and get it ready for paint
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
here's the head with paintjob about halfway done
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
then the head with teeth put in, the client wanted pointy teeth adding
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
i'll take better pics tomorrow

Re: grinchys star wars props
Cheers mate, heres another one of mine, a kitbash of various things, the alien on a pedestal base was a model kit, everything else I put together, the scale was off, the alien here is huge compared to the marine, but I was just having fun with it
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
The marine started out as a pound land soldier, I scratch built his armour and pulse rifle using milliput, one of my favourite parts of the build was the rifle, working at a small scale for a change was a challenge
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I went with a brown colour for the alien, the base itself was an old clock that I ripped the guts out of and repurposed as the base, the greeblies and detailing all came from my spares box, the decals were water slide ones, the alien eggs were just old plastic eggs detailed with milliput

Re: grinchys star wars props
Here's a few more projects I've been working on, first up an ATST, done for a friend, a simple weathering job, couldn't get the thing to stand unaided unfortunately, it did have a great sculpt but the engineering was bad
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
next up a bit of a repaint on a Jason bust, my friend bought it from the states and while he liked it he wanted the shading altering a bit which I did, hope you can tell in the pics, first up how I got it
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
then after I had added more shading
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
next up a work in progress, a ghoulie from the movie of the same name, nearly done, just need to add his pointy teeth and lighten him up a tad

Cheers guys
back in my college days I did work on a few movies, muppets Christmas carol background puppeteer, first knight with Sean Connery, Event Horizon, even some background creature bits for ep 1, mostly promotional stuff with R2 there, but yeah good times, non credited as I wasn't in the union, but for a fresh faced young lad it was certainly an experience

Going back over old photos, heres a set of Krites from the movie Critters, a fun project this one, started out as a commission for one and the order grew with each new piece as the buyer saw progress pics he upped the order to make all the different versions of the critters

Thanks Clint
For teeth I use a plastic compound called magic plastic, it comes as little beads which you add to hot water that makes it malleable, then I hand shape the teeth let it cool and it goes back to a solid great stuff
