Brown Hair Luke Empty Brown Hair Luke

Post by Section 8 Sun Dec 20, 2015 2:40 am

I have this little beauty of a figure. Does the Brown hair/Palitoy Luke farmboy have a specific sabre type or could I pair him up with any yellow sabre?

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

PS: If anyone has one to sell. I'll be interested. cheeky

PPS: Is calling him a Palitoy Luke correct or just something us English like to call him?

PPS: If he is Palitoy. Are any other figures considered Palitoy variants?

I am pretty sure he isn't a palitoy exclusive. There is a carded one in this thread at rs. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I don't think palitoy has any exclusive figure bar the 3 leg r2d2 from the droid factory. The palitoy droid factory r2 has a different sticker on it than the other releases.

Congratulations on picking up the Euro brown hair Luke farmboy, Andrew, it looks in great condition.

Bryan is correct, Palitoy did not produce any figures of their own (except for the Rancor Monster), only vehicles and playsets.
The no coo Euro, Luke Farmboy, was produced in Asia, most likely either China or Macau, and could be found all over Europe.

No coo Euro figures were produced later, and were available on ROTJ and Tri Logo cards. So the correct saber for this figure would be a round transition tip saber.
The flat transition tips (some with letters on the hilts) were produced much earlier, and so should accompany SW and ESB carded figures.

Hey June, yep from what I've seen the dark brown haired Luke is definitely harder to find than the Euro light brown haired Luke. They are more expensive that's for sure.

Thanks for info chaps. He is mint and perfectly white, all i need now is a round tip sabre and place this chap on display. clapping

I did think it unlikely to have Palitoy only figures, but have heard him called that on a few occasions. My new focus is to pick up all the same figures from my childhood loose. Unfortunately the Luke Farmboy I got as a child had Yellow hair so this chap may be moved on for a mint Yellow hair Luke.

I'd also like to get them in MOC form too on the same cards as I would have bought as a child. Working this out won't be easy so expect a lot of variant and moc questions soon. tongue

I also have some clues on the way which I hope will help identify who and what type of moc myself and brother bought in childhood. We didn't keep the cardbacks but my brother did cut some up into small little cards with all figure from the back on. I've found some of these scattered around my parents house where I grew up and some have been glued into a book by my brother.

I hope to rescue them and we can flashback to the identification game with little rectangles of MOCs. cheeky

The short answer is no he was not Palitoy only. There are two different versions of this figure, one has thin black eyes and brown boots, the other has thicker dark brown eyes and tan boots:

These figures which where produced at the Unitoy factory first appeared on the Palitoy 45A which is why they are often referred to as Palitoy, how ever this was the only Palitoy card that this variation was ever released on, and it wasn't unique to this card either, the Palitoy 45A was also produced at the Smile Factory which contained this figure with the Hong Kong stamp (the No COO's didn't show up until the ROTJ 45C):

The Palitoy 45A card produced at Unitoy for the ginger Luke has the typical Unitoy punch and no black box under the Palitoy logo, the 45A card produced at the Smile Factory has the typical Smile punch and a black box for the text under the Palitoy logo.

Once this very short run of figures had been produced, all further stock from UNitoy was sent to France and packaged on Meccano 45 & 65 cards, so if anything, the ginger Luke appeared on more Meccano cards than Palitoy cards.

Hope this answers your question Very Happy
