Re: TXI ?!? - It's for the Birds !!!
I was sitting on my front porch a couple nights ago and heard some owls hooting quite energetically . It's not that unusual for us to hear a owl in the neighborhood but this was a much bigger ruckuss then I am accustomed to and it was obviously more then one owl . It's also unusual for us to hear a owl with this much light still outside so I got up and started looking around and saw this near the top of a very large Cottonwood Tree in our neighbors back yard ...

They are called Barred Owls and are quite large - their body is about 2 feet tall and there wing span is about 3 1/2 feet
Hopefully some of you guys are luckier then me and have seen owls in the wild before but , in nearly 48 years I have never seen one until now
The pictures aren't fantastic but they were quite far away

Great shots James. Like Andy I've been lucky enough to see Barn owls on a few occations (at dusk while driving) and also a couple of Tawney owls this side of the pond.

They get much more yellow later in the year
That's my thistle feeder - basically tiny little seeds that you have to have a special feeder for . It attracts birds like the Gold Finches

Is that tree in your garden or near your house mate it's amazing how they are able to peck away and make such a hole in the tree

Re: TXI ?!? - It's for the Birds !!!
Nice shots, James. Great plumage in the last one. Here's one I took around Yarmouth NS a couple months ago. I was stalking it for like an hour and that's the only shot to turn out half decent.

No idea, I asked a few locals, one was even a "bird hunter" and he didn't know.
