Re: Commander Clint's customs
Garindan's with vinyl & cloth capes and communicators
The cloth cape was a beater Luke Jedi cape that I dyed black and shortened a bit. The vinyl capes are out of some new vinyl material that I found and used a Darth Vader cape as a template and shortened a bit as well. I did cheat on the head. I had picked up some newer loose beaters and used the heads. The communicators are just made out of sculpting putty and shaped with a sander.

R2-Q2
I'm not entirely happy with this one. I need to find a gray paint closer to the sticker colour and maybe add some more detail to the head sculpt. I may attempt it again.

Re: Commander Clint's customs
Luke and Han in their Stormtrooper disguise c/w helmet (just to carry), repo black blaster (hole drilled through handle), and Luke comes with a custom made communicator. These look better in hand. The stormtroopers that I sacrificed were sun burnt and covered with pink marker, so they needed a nice new coat of white paint for the armor.

Sweet customs Clint
I like them all but the "rusty droids" are some of my favs - the technique you used looks great

How do you go about getting that effect and what colors did you use ?

Thanks James.
The effect is called "dry brush technique". It's where you apply paint to a brush, wipe off the excess paint and then continue to wipe off the paint from the brush on a paper towel till there is hardly any paint left on the brush. I then just dabbed the brush (bigger with soft hairs) on the figures. I think that I was using a #3 or #5 brush. I also worked from the lightest to darkest colours.
YouTube has some how to video's as well, on how the professionals do it.
The first Power Droids that you see is V1, and you helped me send those to Marco. I used Testors Enamel's on them (copper, brown & black). I just used acrylic paint on the DSD & V2 Power Droid (copper, dark copper, brown, black). Here is the "brother or copy" of the same one that Jay asked me for. They actually look better in person. Not so good in HD.
It's also the same technique that I tried to use on the Sandtroopers that you have. I just need a little more practice.
I think Alex used the dry brush technique on his "Luke Bespin in Carbonite".

Great thread and thanks for sharing your great customs here, Clint.
Needless to say I am still over the moon with the rusty gonk droids that came as a surprise gift last year.

Re: Commander Clint's customs
Fantastic customs Clint, you have inspired me to try to create my own Garindan Custom figure (well I say inspire, really I mean outright copy )
I have the modern POTF Garindan head and a beater DSC, I just need to pick up an old Luke jedi cape and I'm good to go.
I think my favourites of your customs though have to be your rusty droids, the dry brushing technique works really well

Re: Commander Clint's customs
Thanks guys. I appreciate your kind works.
I have a few more customs on the go. I'm just waiting for the weather to warm up enough to spray paint & spray clear coat outside. I miss having my workshop at the farm.
Chris, good luck on making your Garindan. I can't wait to see it.

Re: Commander Clint's customs
My latest creation. The hat, binoculars, and gun barrel are out of sculpt. The cape I created using a piece of canvas. The gun was a repo that I cut apart and added the longer barrel. The right arm came from Lando.

Great looking custom, Clint.
All you need now is some moisture farm equipment in the background.

Steve, That's awesome that you already have him in the Cantina.
