Yeah, that's happened to me many times Chris, but I've still had my share of real bargains that seemingly went unnoticed.

Yeah, it doesn't take many watchers to create a bidding war. I saw a card back shoot to 700 recently.

A poch cardback recently went for just over £1,000 ($1,400 USD).

Re: when you think you have a bargain....
One thing that Has really made a disturbing turn for the worst is R2-D2 with Pop Up Saber.
Last year was the year for this little fella seeing it finally replace Yak Face in price for a standard Kenner figure. £300+ to just over £400 happened. In the last few months, several have surpassed £600, a saber alone hitting £230 and finally one of Sergio's sales hit £720 a couple of weeks ago!!!!!
What's worrying is that there are several carded figures including AFA 85 POTF figures on ebay as we speak for less than this. Typically speaking, an average condition R2 Pop Up on either POTF or Tri-Logo will sell for half this price and of course the figure inside is mint, so I suspect over the next year or so, the amount of MOC examples of this figure will fall once the greedy scammers realise they can pay 400 for an MOC, open it and then nearly double their money with the loose figure Sad times ahead.... again!

I was watching an SA80 rifle on eBay. Into the last few seconds and the bid was at £41.40. Ebay froze and I couldn’t put in a bid and it sold at £41.40. Not quite in the same league as the above but still gutting none the less.

I was looking at Sergio's Pop-Up R2 from afar and was utterly amazed what it went for. I wanted to post about it somewhere — anywhere — I was so amazed! While I agree it is crazy to see a loose one go for twice as much as a MOC one commands, Sergio's had a fairly white label. Quite uncommon with a Pop-Up Saber R2. With a MOC, the bubble is often yellow and difficult to see if the label is white, off-white or yellow. I have one MOC where I just cannot tell what the color is! I initially bought it to open several years ago, but decide to leave it sealed.

Not sure if you are referring to same thing, but eBay frequently does this thing where it takes forever to load (after placing a bid) and then goes to another page asking me to confirm my bid and click a link 'Resume Bidding.' So annoying — I've lost a lot of auctions that way. That, or, I am fully signed in, I place a bid and it takes me to the login page!
If an auction is real important anymore I just use a sniping site. I dislike sniping, for some reason, but use it when I really want to win an auction.

Rob an excellent decision to leave it sealed mate, the way nature intended
