Re: Is This An Impossible Scam?
I'm sure someone has figured out how to split a cardback.
Hopefully Richard can tell us more.

it had to be that one too. I'm sure those 12-31 backs will all be looked at closely now, because they are some of the few cards where the rare back varient makes sense for the Star Wars card fronts.

Re: Is This An Impossible Scam?
Thanks guys. I wrote that article about 6 weeks ago but held off out of respect for the buyer. I have no idea the impact of this going public will have on him getting a refund and I hope when it was publicly broadcast on Facebook it isn't caused damage. There is a lot of BS of Facebook about this. I don't believe this was an easily spotted fake and Vectis are not convinced it is fake. Glue has been detected and with some prodding has come apart. Is this a sign of two halves, a repair or age? The info hasn't come out yet but it's been rejected as alarm bells are ringing especially with the undocumented and unlikely combination. I really hope the buyer gets a full refund on this because he is not happy with the purchase.

As to profit, would we be querying this if it sold for £15k? 20k? It was an auction. Who knew what it'd do.

Re: Is This An Impossible Scam?
I've seen 4 cardbacks split nearly in half and all have the same colours inside. This is has different shades. The sample is far too small to say one way or the other. My best guess is moisture can cause the compacted paper to break apart. Perhaps steaming?
