Palitoy COO
Hi all you experts. Have a question about palitoy figures. Does have the palitoy factory used figures with a unique COO? If not for all maybe just for certain characters?
Can anyone help? I'm mainly interested about Squidhead, Luke Jedi and Ugnaught. Is it possible to tell, if it came from palitoy?

Re: Palitoy COO
There where no Palitoy Specific COO's. The figures that appeared on Palitoy cards originally where the same as the Kenner figures because they came from the same Asian factories. During the later years around '83 the figures that appeared on Palitoy and other European cards had the COO removed but where still being produced in the same Asian factories.
Some figures that also made it onto Palitoy cards where PBP figures produced in Spain.
The Squid Head, Luke Jedi and Ugnaught with the COO removed where produced in Hong Kong.

Re: Palitoy COO
It appears that figures with the Palitoy logo on the front have COOs . I am currently making note of all the Boba Fett coo differences. I have a post about them here : [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
There are a few COOs similar to this one, but slightly different.

This figure also has a rocket un-like any of my others. The two pieces are greatly off-set. One side is light red plastic, and one is darker red. There are creases and lines all around it.

Re: Palitoy COO
Thank you Alex for your quick response. The question behind the question is actually, are these odd coloured fabric capes found on Squidhead and Luke Jedi typical for Palitoy figures? I was talking to Thomas Bateman on FB. Thomas told me he was in contact with an former palitoy worker who told him they were using at Palitoy all kind of cloth they could get for capes from e.g. Squidhead, Luke Farmboy or Ugnaught. We were talking about this because I shared a pic of my Ugnaughts. One of them has a brown Apron which I suppose to be dyed or even fake (although it looks pretty legit to me). You can see clearly that the fabric is vertically lined not from side to side as it should. He mentionend that some of his Squidheads have this vertically lines as well and these seem to be Palitoy /as well as for some Lukes). Therefore he thinks this Ugnaught could possibly be another odd Palitoy Version. This sounds interesting to me and worth for some deeper Investigation. My Ugnaught came from UK and is a No COO one (srared). So would be interesting if this COO is a Palitoy one, because this would state this theory a bit.

Re: Palitoy COO
The idea is, that the brown smock is possibly made from Squidhead Cape Cloth, as it matches colour and material perfectly. What do you think? Could this be possible?

Re: Palitoy COO
Did some more resaerch today. I didn't focus to much on colour, as there are many out there especially for Squidhead. As you can see, the backside pattern of the Cloth does not really match with the Squidhead cape. but the Luke Jedi cape has the same backside pattern as this odd Ugnaught smock. Colour hits almost the Jedi one. Possibly this could be an legit smock made from Luke Jedi cloth. Maybe because they were just out of the regular one at Palitoy. Anyway if this would be true (I know there is no really proof, just a brave theory) the Ugnaught would be a "late" one as Luke Jedi is a ROTJ Figure not ESB. But would fit to what is said about the late time at Palitoy factory. Maybe just bullshit, but as I think worth to think about.......

Hey Dirk, can you check the strap material as well. It looks different from the rest of your Ugnaught's in the group shot?

Brown Apron Ugnaught?? Wow this must be another degree of fabric discoloration after Purple!

I agree Clint. Personally I think the brown cape is fake.

Re: Palitoy COO
You are right, the strap is a little big thicker while material seems to be the same. I saw "regular" Ugnaught smocks with thicker straps too, although I don't have another one myself. But you are right this is another point to consider. Actually I don't know about this Ugnaught, but I'm pretty sure this is no discoloration (makes no sense). And I don't think it was dyed. Starting with blue or purple you cannot achieve this light brown for sure. So I think someone made it on his own (than he made it very well) or the other possibility is the theory of an Palitoy made smock with Jedi Luke cloth.
Don't say it is, but the idea is worth thinking about. Interesting

When I saw the straps, I was thinking someone did a very nice job at creating a home made smock. I actually like the brown better.

Re: Palitoy COO
One can see, that the strap is dull not glossy as the strap of the regular one. This is a clear hint for a homemade custom I suppose? Maybe a custom actually made from a Luke Jedi cloak. Don't know if there are regular non glossy straps out there'?
