Which one of these Model Trems is fake?
Hey dudes, so I tried this in the Luke FB group yesterday but thought I'd test your knowledge here. Just a bit of fun. You blokes know how much I love my Lukes so this was a tough lesson for me. I'd rather know the truth though.
Bought these two beauties about five years ago from two separate (and trusted) sources. Found out last week from a very knowledgeable MT collector, Martijn E, that one of them is one of the Argentinian fakes. This info wasn't around at the time I bought them so I don't blame the seller (who has quit the hobby).
So which one do you think is fake? Don't cheat if you saw my post in the Luke group!

I'm going to guess the LXWP. Is that a nail being used as the neck post?

Re: Which one of these Model Trems is fake?
Okay it's the Luke X-Wing Pilot.
So this is what Martijn told me:
"There are two types of fakes, 1 originating from Pablo Artesi and 1 type also from Argentina but with different characteristics. You have the latter. You can recognise these by the build. The hip connection has a hex shaped nut and also the screws used for the arms are of a different type. The torso is made from a more heavy material where every other MT figure isn’t made from lead but have resin made torso’s and a mixture of metal and sometimes resin limbs and heads."
And yep, supposedly the shining new nail is another identifier of these fakes.
I bought it from an MT collector on RS but from what I hear these fakes weren't identified until relatively recently so he probably had no idea when he sold it to me. No hard feelings on my part. Just a shame because I really love this little fella, even though he's heavier than a brick.... Silly me....

Re: Which one of these Model Trems is fake?
Great information Christian. I didn't even look at the bolts and nuts holding the arms and legs onto the torso.
They don't think it was repaired at some point? Or do they have other examples of the same bolts and nuts being used on other figures?

Re: Which one of these Model Trems is fake?
To be honest mate, I haven't found much info on it yet. Going to ask around though.
Re: Which one of these Model Trems is fake?
Do you know if the box is a pretty accurate recreation? Thanks for sharing this!
Re: Which one of these Model Trems is fake?
WHoaaaa Interesting, you'd think that would be harder to find than the figure.
Re: Which one of these Model Trems is fake?
Yeah I already had a well-known bootleg collector offer to buy it. Think I'll hang onto it for the timebeing.

It's really interesting to see how something as rough as that still has plenty of tell-tale signs that it's a reproduction.
Thanks for sharing this information, Christian.

Yeah funny huh, I would have had no idea how to spot it as a fake.
