Re: Black Pouch Chewies: Shedding a bit more light on the Dark Matter :)
After going through my collection, I quickly made a few quick comparison pics with some Chewies this afternoon.
All of them have a Hong Kong COO, from COO family I according to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

In all pics we see from left to right A >> F.
Figure A: Kenner
Figure B: Kenner (from Early Bird Set)
Figure C: Poch
Figure D: Poch
Figure E: Kenner
Figure F: Kenner

Summary:
- Chewie A=B, and E=F. So there seem to be at least two Kenner variants for this COO, differing in eye and pouch color.
Figure B comes from an Early Bird Set, so A/B might represent earlier produced Kenner batches, opposed to E/F. - Kenner figures A and B also have a very white bandolier. So I left the idea posted in my first post, that the pure Poch black pouch Chewie is unique in having a very white bandolier. And decided to focus on the eyes and pouch only.
- The main characteristic of the black pouch Chewie seems to be.....the black pouch (that did not come as a big surprise ). It should be pure black and NOT glossy.
- The eyes of the black pouch Chewie can be blue or greyish blue. Note that the greyish blue eyes can also be seen with Kenner figures (compare D with E/F). Maybe that is a hint that figure D is a Class II figure.
Thank you for reading.
Cheers
Marco

Note: There is also a second type op Poch Chewie. It has a Hong Kong COO from Family 3 (Tantive Guide). It was made from parts that probably originated from Kader Industries, as the limbs have a strong tendency to discoulour/transform from brown to green). The paint apps on this figure are unique to early PBP production. The pouch is painted in purplish brown (a bit like egg plant), and brilliant white was used for the bandolier, teeth and eyes. The blue paint used for the eye is unique as well. But more about that figure some other time. Let’s first start a discussion on the black pouch Wookiee.
Here some pics of the second Poch variant. Sorry for the quality of the pics. I promise to redo them with better lightning, background etc. for a future guide here on TXI.

The deep blue ("copper sulphate" blue) eyes and egg plant like pouches seem to be unique. Note the different levels of plastic degradation causing the limbs to turn from brown to green. Probably the plastic parts came from Kader Industries, renown its bad plastic quality and subsequent colour degradation during the years. Leather head Yoda, and green snakes are other examples of plastic degradation which can be found on both Kader produced Kenner figures and their derived Poch figures.
Note that the Kenner counterpart of this Poch variant lacks the eggplant pouch and has a brown pouch one instead. Also shown nicely in Bill's pics.
The eyes are very similar, but Kenner used a more greyish blue. The bandolier of the Poch figure seems brighter white.

Thanks Bill.
The Poch black pouch Chewie is a great variant but it is good to realize that there are Kenner counterparts closely resembling this variant. The devil is in the detail.
Maybe there are other traits that can be used as a good indicator for this variant, apart from the black pouch. I can imagine that Javi's upcoming book will provide some more clues.
Cheers
