Short Pour & Factory Error Figures
[title]
Short Pour & factory error Figures[/title]
Short Pour & factory error Figures[/title]
A question that regularly pops up, is about figures that have no coo or date stamp. Also questions about figures that lack paint or have disfigured limbs, even two of the same limb, like two right arms or two left legs.
So I thought it might be a good idea to start a discussion thread, where we can show our short pours and other types of factory error figures. So that it might help to better document and explain to collectors, about these quirky and often interesting figures.
Many collectors find these figures so interesting that they have a factory error side focus. So if you have a short pour or factory error figure, please do chime in with some pics
[mini_title]Short pours:[/mini_title]
Although there are a handful of genuine variants that lack a coo or date stamp. For example a Lili Ledy Logray, & the majority of the top toys line.
Most figures that have this feature are usually short pours or factory errors, where the mould injection process did not completely fill the mould cavity. Perhaps due to a dirty mould, trapped air bubbles, or lack of plastic injected.
Here is an example of my Darth Vader short pour. Although it is quite obvious in this particular example that the figure is a short pour, due to the smaller foot and course / undefined texture of the leg. Some short pours can look completely normal, only having the coo and date stamp missing. Imperial Commander and Tusken Raider for example are well known for having short pours like this.

[mini_title]Factory Errors:[/mini_title]
Here is an example of a factory error, in my Anakin Skywalker figure, who has two left arms. Although it is possible, by some unscrupulous sellers, to create these quirky figures, by boiling and popping the limbs. My example is from my childhood and originally came from a factory sealed overstock baggie.

So if you have a short pour, or limb error, or factory paint application, error figure, then please do share it with us here

Great thread Chris.
Hopefully some of the other collectors will chime into the conversation. I don't have anything unusual like short pours or factory errors.

Great idea for a thread, Chris.
There is a lot of misinformation about these factory errors, sometimes resulting in wrongly labelling these figures as variants or even prototypes.
This thread will for sure help to put things into the right perspective.

Re: Short Pour & Factory Error Figures
Awesome thread Chris - I LOVE factory errors
Unfortunately I have given away or sold nearly everyone I have come across , but at least most have went to my good friend Jess in California who , I felt , loves them even more then me .
Luckily I have kept a few pics of some of the errors I have come across over the years but sadly the picture quality is pretty poor because I took them long before I got a decent camera .
I'll start with a few short pour errors like Chris's Vader :
This is a example of a short pour Vader that I had at one point (I actually think Marco may have gotten this one , if I remember correctly ) -
[300][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][/300]
[400][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][/400]
And here's a Rebel Commander with a similar leg error (I think Jess got this one) -
[400][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][/400]
Here's a Rebel Commando (on the left) that lacks definition on the belt pouch . I assume is also the result of a short pour as well ? (I believe Marco has this one now) -

Not sure if this one falls into the short pour category or if it is a different type of error ???
Seems like I have heard that sometimes parts were removed from the molds too quickly and would shrink in size (Cooling error ) so maybe that's what caused this error ?
I really wish I would have known Andy (Nico) when I had this figure several years ago because it would have been super cool for his Lando focus

yeah that was my thinking too Marco, hopefully we can educate and help to dispel some misinformation about these figures.
But also show how quirky and appealing some of them can be

thanks for chiming in James, those short pours and factory errors are great
Your Vader looks very similar to mine, with a shorter leg and stumpy foot. But it has more of the normal detailing on the leg and and boot.
The same with the rebel commander, shorter leg and stumpy foot probably caused by inadequate amounts of plastic being injected into the mould.
With the Vader figure, its a moulded black figure, with very little paint apps, so a flaw like this could easily be missed. But I find it interesting that the Rebel commander leg was not picked up by quality control, and actually went through the painting and assembly process.
The shrunken head Lando, is a cool error it's interesting that if this was a result of improper cooling, after being pulled from the mould. That the spray mask still fitted him quite well, and that his hair, eyes and moustache all look quite well aligned and not too oversized. But I suppose the size difference is subtle enough that it went unnoticed by QC.
thanks for sharing Jim

Greta errors Steve, the unpainted Lando belt is very cool and that poor Jawa, with his legs on backwards, looks like he must have been assembled by Chewbacca
