Re: What Music Moves You ?
We just had another good friend of mine join our site : OverdriveDS1 (Phillip)
I have known Phillip for a few years and he is a really cool guy
He has always seemed quite humble to me and I'm not sure if he would post this himself , so I am going to go ahead and "out him" here
He plays guitar in a band that might just have the coolest name ever ...
Hailing from Tennessee ...
FAR , FAR AWAY

I'm an 80's guy so I seem to be stuck in a timewarp.
Only really like that sort of era with favourites being The Smiths, Stone Roses, Happy Monday, Inspiral Carpets.
Modern stuff...Does Radio head count...Maybe Elbow?

Ian_C wrote:Cool. I have all three albums too, both mp3 and actual CD as well, plus a ton of non-album bonus tracks. Let's make it a plan. These days, it's me and my son that go to concerts, as the rest of my friends have moved on from that scene, and of course, my 13 year old can't get into that show due to age limits (which upsets him a lot - he's more into this music than most guys our age). Went with my brother-in-law last time, but he's become a poser and it was almost embarrassing having him there.
On to other things, what concerts have you guys been to? I'll list mine eventually, but it's a pretty big list....
Ian
Still looking forward to your list Ian
I posted my list but I can't believe I forgot to add Five Finger Death Punch to it
I saw them in Tulsa about a Year and a half ago ... they were fucking awesome
Their singer Ivan was in another band I really like called Motograter before Five Finger ...
and here is his musical number in one of my favorite movies The Devil's Carnival ...

Oh shit, I completely forgot to do that!
You'll see most are from my hair band days. Ah, who am I kidding. I still live the hair band days, lol. Lots of newer bands I wouldn't mind seeing, but most I haven't bothered putting out the money to go see.
To the best of my memory, here's my list. SOMEWHERE, I have the ticket stubs to most of them. I have listed several more than once - that's not repeated, those are different shows.
First hard rock show I'll never forget. Motley Crue with Tesla in 1990 on the Dr. Feelgood tour. Then it gets fuzzy.
Scorpions with Slaughter and Great White
Def Leppard with ?
Metallica with Suicidal Tendencies and Danzig
David Lee Roth with Cinderella
Cinderella with Slaughter and Bulletboys
Aerosmith with Aldo Nova and Four Non Blondes
Def Leppard with April Wine and Ugly Kid Joe
Poison with ?
Megadeth
Meatloaf
Scorpions with Damn Yankees and Firehouse
White Zombie with The Ramones
Ozzy Osbourne with Sepultura and Danzig
Van Halen (aka Van Hagar) with Vince Neil, Kim Mitchell, and Alannah Myles
Poison with Nelson
Rob Zombie with Alice Cooper
ZZ Top with Extreme
Cinderella with ?
Slik Toxik with ?
Sven Gali with ?
Def Leppard with Poison and Lita Ford
Scorpions with Cinderella
Van Halen with Kool & the Gang
Trooper with Chilliwack
Fozzy
Bon Jovi with Wild T & The Spirit
Def Leppard with Poison and Cheap Trick
Poison with Warrant, Quiet Riot, Enuff Z'Nuff
Motley Crue
Airbourne
Steel Panther with ?
Guns n' Roses with Brian May
Metallica with ?
Can't remember who they played with, but I know I've also seen Faster Pussycat, and London Quireboys, along with a couple more I can't remember.
Also took the wife to see U2 once.
And my first EVER concert. Please, go easy on me...... Culture Club with New Edition Hey, it was 1982, and I was still 10 years old, with a sister who loved Bobby Brown and the rest of that crap group.

Great list Ian
I would loved to have seen Suicidal Tendencies , Sepultura , White Zombie , Ramones , Alice Cooper and several others that I haven't seen on your list .
Kool & The Gang would have been sweet
Great 1st concert

Mine was the Grand Old Opry so it's nothing to brag about

Re: What Music Moves You ?
LOL!
Yeah, I was a completely different kid before I turned 16. I was all about the 80's top 40 stuff. Not huge into Duran Duran like the rest of the world (I actually appreciate them more now as an adult), but loved all those synth bands. Thompson Twins, Tears For Fears, Simple Minds, etc. Had a very bad year around 1989 when I bought albums from Tone Loc and DJ Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince, but quickly realized I couldn't stand anything other than the radio hits from those two, and have sworn off anything rap ever since. If I need a groove fix, it's coming from the real musicians - Stevie Wonder, James Brown, pre-Thriller Michael Jackson, early funky stuff from Kool & the Gang, etc. Yeah, my music tastes vary a great deal, even if I am primarily a hair band guy.
I knew of Suicidal Tendencies before I saw them (was only there for Metallica), and they blew me away. For the longest time, "How Will I Laugh Tomorrow" was played almost every day by me. Same story with Sepultura, and "Roots Bloody Roots" also became a mainstay of my playlists. Cooper was one on my bucket list. I took my son, 8 at the time, to see him and Rob Zombie. I became the "coolest dad ever" at that show. White Zombie I saw in 1995. Probably the single best experience at a concert ever. Just amazing, and I still get a hard on for Sean Yseault.

To the man who was always there, may he rest in peace.
"Life on Mars" impressed me when watching von Trier's "Breaking the Waves" back in 1996, and it is one of my favourite songs ever since.

Have fun at the show James!
Does Primus do the South Park song live? Also, I don't get creeped out easy, but Wynona's Big Brown Beaver is a fucked up video.

Thanks Ian
I don't think the Southpark theme song is a regular part of their set lists but they do tease occasionally with it
This will only be the 2nd time I have seen primus live but it will make my 6th or 7th time to see Tool
The Guitar Hero episode of Southpark does mention John the Fishermen as being one of the hardest songs to play on the game

Re: What Music Moves You ?
Just got back from the show and , as usual , Tool was fucking fantastic Even though we had nose bleed seats we had a fantastic view of Danny
Here's the set list :
No Quarter (Led Zeppelin cover)
The Grudge
Parabol
Parabola
Schism
Opiate (with a kick ass extended drum part)
Out of the 6 or 7 times I have seen Tool I have never been fortunate enough to see them perform Opiate live - it was the highlight of the show
Ænema
Descending
Jambi
Forty-Six & 2
Intermission
Drum Solo (with synth)
Sweat
(-) Ions
Stinkfist
Primus was really good too but had a pretty short set

Thanks Chris and Andy
I would have given anything for both of you to have been able to be there with us
Here's Opiate the way they have been doing it on this tour ...
Here is their closing number from the show last night ...
It's not real a great quality recording but it is video of the actual show last night in Tulsa
A packed house and the show sold out in 16 minutes the day tickets went on sell
