Star Wars Fan Club Patches

Some of these patches were originally included as part of "Official Fan Club Kits" and others were only available for purchase through Fan Club newsletters .

Please be aware that there are numerous reproductions floating around . We will do our best to document the ones we believe are original and try to provide as many photos and as much information that we can to help everyone tell the difference . Unfortunately it will not be a easy task so , in the meantime , buyer beware when purchasing patches .

Fan Club Kit Patches

1977/1978 Star Wars Official Fan Club Patch

Actual Size :  2 " Diameter

The top patch shown is obviously used - it is quite faded and there is some remainder of thread used to sew it on something . This patch is most likely original and the thread pattern may help identify other originals . The next 3 patches seem to match the thread pattern of the faded one .

Note :  Bantha Tracks Issue # 12 offered a "limited supply" reissue of the 1977/1978 circular Official Fan Club Kit . All the paperwork , photos , book cover etc. are marked 1981 . Unfortunately since the patches are not date stamped we have not figured out if the 1981 circular patches are different and , if so , what the differences are .

1983 Revenge / Return of the Jedi Fan Club Patch

Due to the last minute name change of the movie the 1983 ROTJ Fan Club Kit could have came with either a Revenge or a Return patch . The Fan Club had already produced the Revenge patch and had to produce Return versions after the movies name changed . Both versions were randomly inserted in the Fan Club Kits mailed to members . It seems that the Revenge patch is not much , if any , more uncommon then the Return patch and that they were produced in fairly equal numbers .

1980 The Empire Strikes Back "Vader In Flames" Patch

The "Vader In Flames" patch was originally made for film cast and crew only . In 1980 it was replicated to sell to Fan Club Members and was available to purchase beginning with Bantha Tracks Issue # 10 (Summer 1980) . It remained available for purchase all the way through Issue # 32 (Spring 1986) .

1981 Star Wars A New Hope Patch

The first time this patch was available to purchase was in Bantha Tracks Issue # 12 (May 1981) . It remained available for purchase all the way through Issue # 32 (Spring 1986) :

Due to the extended period of time that these patches were available it should be expected that they can be found in slight pattern and color variations . Both of these patches are originals :

1982 Star Wars Logo Patch

Issue # 18 of Bantha Tracks (November 1982) was actually the first time the "Star Wars Logo" patches were available for purchase through the Fan Club .

This patch is very similar to the 1977 Star Novelties release and can be a bit confusing . The Fan Club version (pictured on the bottom) is wider and the stitching is neater :

1982 Revenge of the Jedi Yoda Patch

The only time this patch was available to purchase was in Bantha Tracks Issue # 19 (Feb 1983) . It would seem that the Fan Club didn't get Return Of The Jedi's title change before they had already made "Revenge" patches to sell to fan club members . By the time the February issue was ready to send out they had this explanation :

3 months later , in issue # 20 , the "Revenge" patch was corrected with a "Return" patch . Due to the very short time the Revenge Of The Jedi Yoda patch was available it is by far the hardest fan club patch to find and the patch that is reproduced/faked the most often .

2005 Revenge of the Jedi Yoda C&D Visionary Inc. Patch (Lucas Film Licensed)

This patch is actually a licensed reproduction and is about a 1/4 " smaller then the originals are :

Please note that this patch can be found in 2 original variations and at least 1 reproduction . The colors are different on the originals but the easiest way to tell the difference between them is the TM circle marking (by the "S" in Wars) . The reproduction is pretty obvious :
