the89thchris' Modern Collection
the89thchris' Modern Collection (My Black Series 6" Collection / Exlusive C-3PO)
I thought I'd update this post to feature some of my modern collection. Since I was young when POTF2 came out I've got a lot of that. (but I'm happy to say that I now have far more vintage figures than modern)
I just picked up this "X-Wing" game piece called a "HWK-290" or as fans of Dark Forces (1995) / Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II (1997) would know it: "the Moldy Crow". I couldn't resist picking this up partially because these game pieces are beautifully detailed (If you haven't seen the mind blowing Tantive IV piece, do check it out), but its also the first and perhapse only "disney-era" mention of Kyle Katarn, my favorite EU/Legends character.

I just had my buddy who is a manager at GameStop (EB Games here in Canada) hold this C-3PO for me as they have been selling like crazy and that's the only place they're available in Canada. In the states, it's a Walgreens exclusive.
Basically is the same as the one that's released at Toys R Us and Walmart except it doesn't have that stupid red arm and it does have the silver left leg. That does sound a bit juvenile now that I see it in writing lol but seriously forget that red arm.
This looks much better than the Disney Store Elite series too. However, if it were vac-metallized it would be a full giggidy lol

I'll post some more photos of my other black series items / finds in here later as I suppose this is a collection section.
End of Original Post
Here's a shot of my un-boxed black series shelf which also houses my partial POTF collection:

I'll post some more modern stuff here as I dig it up, I've been selling off some of it to fund my vintage collection lately.

Re: the89thchris' Modern Collection
The Black Series figures look awesome. Highly detailed figures focussing on collectors. Whereas the main Hasbro line with 5 points of articulation is more intended for kids.
Please share your other Black Series figures here as well.
Cheers

Re: the89thchris' Modern Collection
That's a nice C-3PO, sadly it's not available anywhere over here (except in comics/mangas import shop but it's over-expensive there). I must admit this year I got a bit hooked-up and I've bought a few of the new imperial troopers from the new movie!

Imperial troopers from the new movie eh? I hope you mean rogue one and not tfa, Nicholas lol much better designs.
Just wanted to share this Celebration II lunchbox that I picked up at a thrift store for $1.99 a couple years back.

It's not in the best shape, but for $1.99? Had to. That's basically the "real" celebration one from what I've read.

There's no Empire anymore in TFA so yes I was meaning Rogue One Took the chance to fill the ranks of my figure army with the classic Stormtroopers and one of each of the other troopers since they indeed nailed the designs really well in Rogue One.
As it's been said, after one year TFA is starting to age quite badly. Not only the story and characters, but also the design and aesthetic. Looking back at it now the First Order Stormtrooper looks awful, Phasma a lot less cooler and everything else feels like OT cold plates re-heated quiclky in a microwave
I must admit when TFA was released I got a little carried away and I've bought many figures, but since last fall I have started getting rid of a lot of them. Just last week I made a second purge through my remaining TFA stuff and I kept only a few things I actually like : mostly the new Tie Pilots and Tie Fighters which are in the end the only thing I've found really cool among all the new designs + a few of the basic 3.75" figures and a handful of the 6" ones + the Revell model kits of the 2 new X-Wings. All of the rest is gone or will be put up for sale or traded.
For the moment I am absolutely not excited at all by episode 8, so I think I'll calm down drastically in my toys and figures aquisitions starting from next September I'm actually much more excited by the Ghosbusters Playmobils coming in summer than by the episode 8 toy line.

Re: the89thchris' Modern Collection
I think the black series tie tighter is rather cool but it would just dominate any room it's put in, even at one of the crazy sale prices it often comes down to.
Also I wouldn't mind a black series tfa/ep8 Luke. ive only picked up black series figures from the OT/EU so far. Something about Rey and Finn is so Disney lol

Re: the89thchris' Modern Collection
I've managed to get the 6" Tie Fighter in Spring last year on Amazon UK for about £80 + free shipping, but it's still in the box since then, I have no idea where to put that thing It's insane how it so quiclky dropped in price.
I'm sure Black Series Luke from ep.8 will come next Fall. All of the rest I don't know how it will look yet but I think they will serve us the same troopers again, with maybe a few new ones or specialized troopers just different enough from the standard one to justify making new toys. But if they keep going in the continuity of TFA I'll pass on many things.

Yeah, hasbro confirmed that ep7 Luke a long time ago.
Check out the delightful box art on this item:

I think this still counts as modern lol strictly speaking.

That's great art work Chris
Never had that one myself, but I did have Super Star Wars on SNES
I remember I had to get an adapter to play it as it was a US cartridge

Nice, I wouldn't mind having all 3 just because the art style is so retro lol they should really still do covers like this, reminds me of the old posters.

Re: the89thchris' Modern Collection
Found a really cool 'Shadows of the Empire' 'Bounty Hunter Disguise' Chewbacca Bootleg.
It's part of a well known series of Chinese POTF2 bootlegs known as 'Galaxy Empire'. I've pictured him here with his official counterpart. The coolest thing about these bootlegs has got to be the fact that they are scaled up.

The only resources I can find just say that they're common. I've never seen them carded at any discount or dollar stores but then again I'm n Canada lol this one was loose in a bin at a flea market.

Got the Last Jedi A-Wing and posed a vintage pilot in it and posted it in some modern collecting FB groups. seemed like the right thing to do.

Re: the89thchris' Modern Collection
Cartainly better with the no nerf. It's about the same footprint as the vintage A-Wing but not as thick (to save on costs no doubt) but it's a very solid design. Projectiles just look like part of the sculpt really.
Re: the89thchris' Modern Collection
Glad to hear there's no nerf, any more pics to share?, if you have time of course, still on the fence about what i'm buying

Re: the89thchris' Modern Collection
Yeah I could take some more of the A-Wing. Beyond that and maybe the Luke Skywlker figure, I don't think I'll be getting anything else. Also the Luke figure will likely come with a saber after the film's release.
Re: the89thchris' Modern Collection
I took a few minutes to shoot my Hero Series Falcon [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] asked if I had any more pics of it like 800 years ago. I did a bit of a black wash on it but I went a little overboard. I usually have it wall mounted so you can see some wires.
Before that, I just picked up this Holiday Special Boba Fett figure at a Canadian ToyCon in Burlington today. Sure its just a re-paint of the VC Fett, but that sea serpent "cattle prod" is a unique sculpt based on the cartoon from the Holiday Special and nothing else lol that's cool

Re: the89thchris' Modern Collection
Cleaning up around the place today, noticed these two in a box and thought I'd share.
I consider to be the best "modern" items I own. These two comic packs display the absolute pinnacle of Hasbro 3.75" Star Wars figure sculpts. This Vuuzahn Vong figure is a sight to behold, it's hard to believe they packed as much detail into a figure this size. Kyle Katarn was one of the greatest tragedies of disney's canon purge., a great character that I followed across 4 video games as they were released from 1995-2003.
As for Darth Talon, the barely clothed, sith tattooed, Twi-lek, good luck ever seeing anything this awesome again under disney's watch. There's an old gentle giant statue of her that regularly sells for over 1k on the secondary market.
I picked up both of these when they came out, (2007-08) I wasn't really collecting at this point (had some POTF2 carded figures in a box somewhere) but I knew these were something special when I saw them. I picked up a second one of the Kyle Katarn/Vong pack to open. They seem to go for $80-$100 CAD each on eBay lately, more for the Darth Talon one, can't imagine why .
