Early "Pointy W" Star Wars Logo Button ( 2 3/16 " Diameter )

This button does not have any copyright licensing information printed on it but was most likely distributed by Twentieth Century Fox Film  Corp. to theatrical venues along with the film's teaser trailer during the Christmas season of 1976 .

This button features the early "Pointy W" incarnation of the Star Wars logo which was handed out to theater employees and customers prior to the film's release .

May The Force Be With You Button ( 2 1/2 " Diameter )

This button does not have any copyright licensing information printed on it . It was handed out to the first 5,000 moviegoers at select special engagement premieres of the film on May 25th 1977 .

It would appear that most , if not all , of these 3 " buttons can actually be found in a couple of slight variations . The copyright stamps are found with 2 print style variations and the actual photo quality (color / sharpness) is different as well .

These 2 C-3PO pins are probably the easiest to see the difference in the copyright print . The actual letter size appears the same but the spacing between the letters is wider on the button that is laying on top ...

These buttons are pretty identical to the 3 " Factors buttons that were made for the US market . The main difference is the size of course but some slight variations in color and pic quality can be seen as well . There are some comparison photos shown to give you a idea of what the differences and similarities are .

The next badge doesn't have any copyright markings at all , however , it is identical in size , color scheme and the style of the back is the same as the 6 badges ...

According to SWCA :

I wonder if it is a UK version of the Blue Theatrical Promotional buttons that [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] showed us earlier in this thread ?

Here's another button that has a similar " Star Wars " print to the ones above but it is about 1/8 " larger and the back is not the same style

I can't see any markings or writing at all ...

The diameter is 2 1/4 "

The Canadian coo buttons appear to have the sharpest / brightest photo images ; Taiwan is middle quality and No Coo versions seem to be the lowest quality images .

Please note that there are quite a few other buttons in this series but we have not put much research into them yet . In fact , the only reason they have been added here is to try and help other collectors identify the year these were made . When I originally saw these on Ebay and purchased them I thought they might be from the 1977 to 1985 time frame but discovered that they are quite a bit more recent once they arrived and I could actually see the dates .

The Science and Engineering Festival ( FSG ) is a student festival held each year in January at Laval University in Quebec City . It is a friendly competition of varied activities, spread over roughly two weeks, organized for and by students from different fields of science and engineering. The first edition of the Festival took place in January 1976. The event was subsequently held each year without a break: the 2015 Festival was the 40 th edition.
