with Steves great arcticle on variant collecting and the 50 sahdes of gray thread i really have begun to question if hes a legit variant or just degradation.
i first learned of this variant while looking through lars's great variant page (man that dude has ALOT of variants )
ive been in the game on again and off again for over 25 years and was shocked to see a picture of this oddity .
i really want to know if anyone else here has one ? is there a carded version? is it some sort of mistake .
actually while looking at the picture i took it also seems the body is way thinner . IN THE MIDDLE IS THE WHITE BUTTON
am i just being blinded by the fact that i want him to be legit?
well heres some more pictures to wet your appetites and i assure all of you i havent done anything to alter his appearance either ...
questions? comments and thoguhts? go for it

I'm on the fence with this one. My gut tells me that the sticker is faded. But it very well might be a factory error, where the red colour was misprinted. It's a good mystery.

Re: Power Droid White Button Variant
Hard to say on the sticker for sure but the size of the body really makes me wonder .
Can you measure the widths of each one ?
Does the other guys white sticker droid share the same trait of being narrower as it appears yours is ?
Are the coo stamps identical to either of the others ? If you check our guide you will see that the shallow and deep v droids are actually different coo families

Tricky one this Bill. The width of the body does appear to be slimmer. As James suggested, measure the three figures and check the coo's.
Unfortunately it can be rather difficult to make a judgement based on photo's alone. As Clint said it could be fading, or a factory error where certain pigments began to run out during the printing process.

Re: Power Droid White Button Variant
im going to do all of those things . actually part of the story that i didnt tell is that when i got it i went down to my local tattoo shop to vist the guy who tattoos me JR. he has a jewelry eyepiece thing that magnifies things like you would not believe . i told him about this droid and we looked at the sticker under this thing . there has never been any ink applied to the part of the sticker that is white . ive checked the coo and it matches with te guys website i looked at to find the figure originally .personally i think it may be an error or faded . like i said ive begun to question if its a variant or not and im leaning heavily towards no .
James my buddy has a micrometer so thats next in the near future . i'll let you guys know either way .. thanks for your help on him . either way hes cool and i didnt pay alot for him at all . its really just cool to look at

I agree with the guy's the sticker could be faded or a factory error
As Chris [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] mentioned Frank [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] has many loose examples of the power droid so it will be interesting to hear what he thinks
And a very good point James made about the width of the droid in the centre of your pic, it does look thinner than the others
Whatever he is Bill it's a very cool little droid mate

Re: Power Droid White Button Variant
so I measured the widths and lengths and the body on the white button is smaller . strange . id give the measurements but the micrometer I used isn't digital .
I wish I had another to compare it to .

Re: Power Droid White Button Variant
This is a neat one Bill.
Looking at how faded the yellow button is, and the fact red seems to fade faster than any other color, I would assume it's fading.
That doesn't explain the obviously narrower body though.
I'll bet this becomes the next big variant to get, after the red bar R5-D4. You might have a $250 Power Droid in your hands!

Bill, post up your measurements. Someone should be able to convert the measurements for you.

Re: Power Droid White Button Variant
Interesting one this, will deffo need the body measurements to go any further but does look a fair bit narrower, if it were not for that I would have said fading, looking forward to seeing what he gauges out at, in the mean time I'll have to check all my loosies, got about 100, but with ask Chris hibbard as he's north of 500 already, will also check my carded & baggies
