REMCO UNIVERSAL STUDIOS MINI MONSTER FIGURES (3 3/4 " scale)
[600][/600]
The Remco toy company released 6 different 3 3/4 " scale Mini Monsters in 1980 :
[800][/800]
Remco added a "Glow In The Dark" series soon thereafter :
[800][/800]
For the most part the figures simply had a coat of paint added to the faces and hands that glowed in the dark but The Creature From The Black Lagoon and The Mummy were actually molded in plastic that glowed in the dark . There doesn't seem to be any other change's in the sculpting or copyright details (COO stamp) between the standard and the glow series .
Here are photos of both series examples of the Mini Monsters side by side . The Non glow series is always on the left and the glow in the dark figures are on the right :
The Creature From The Black Lagoon
[800][/800]
[600][/600]
All of the figures except The Creature From The Black Lagoon have their coo stamp on their backs but the Creatures are on the right sides of their ankles :
[500][/500]
Count Dracula
[800][/800]
[800][/800]
[500][/500]
[500][/500]
[600][/600]
[500][/500]
The capes for both versions seem to be made of the same type of vinyl but the cape that was with the Glow Dracula I have is a bit darker red . I can't say for sure that it isn't just a case of slight fading on the lighter colored cape .
[600][/600]
[500][/500]
The Frankenstein Monster
[800][/800]
[500][/500]
[500][/500]
The Mummy
[800][/800]
[500][/500]
[500][/500]
The Phantom Of The Opera
[800][/800]
[800][/800]
[500][/500]
[500][/500]
The capes for the 2 different Phantom figures are made of 2 different styles of vinyl on the examples I have shown :
[600][/600]
[500][/500]
Unfortunately I have no idea if this was a standard change in Remco's production and , if so , when it was done . I also can't be positive at this point that it's not a reproduction
The Wolfman
[800][/800]
[500][/500]
[500][/500]
In addition to the figures Remco also released a "Mini Monster Play Case" and a "Mini Monsterizer" playset for the 3 3/4 " scale line .

Glad you like the figures guys
Great to see you have some of the originals too Bill
Are you sure the only glow figure you have is the Creature ? Take them in a dark room after they have been exposed to light for awhile and see if any of their faces glow
I was also wondering what your Phantom cape is like ?
[600][/600]
Is your's smoother like mine on the left or does it have a texture like the one on the right ?

Thanks Bill
That makes me feel a lot better
I was concerned that the textured cape I had could possibly be a reproduction but seeing another example , particularly one with as much wear , makes me believe that both are legitimate .

Re: REMCO UNIVERSAL STUDIOS MINI MONSTER FIGURES (3 3/4 " scale)
Andy sorry just reread your post .. the plastic figures on the right are mpc monsters from 1961
there were 8 made in various colors , purple, light purple, green , black , orange and red , red being the rarest as they were only available in a chess set .
they are freaking awesome and you can still grab them for relatively cheap 20$ ish depending on the character and color . i'll take some closeups .
I think we need a monster toys thread that way everyone can show off what they got .. just a idea

Re: REMCO UNIVERSAL STUDIOS MINI MONSTER FIGURES (3 3/4 " scale)
These are very cool. I've actually never heard of them but not even sure we had them in Australia. Then again we didn't get electricity until 1986...
Re: REMCO UNIVERSAL STUDIOS MINI MONSTER FIGURES (3 3/4 " scale)
I got Frankenstein and Gillman in a SW lot a few years ago. I didn't even know what they were at first, as I had never seen them before. Both are non-glow versions. Someone sent me a Wolf Man a year or two ago in a package they were very late in sending me.
To be honest, my kids thought they were so cool, and Frankenstein was a bit beat up, so I let the kids have them in their action figure collection. I'd like a full set for myself one day though.
