Looking for some help with some Leia poncho hats and other accessories
Hey folks, I'm looking for some help with some Leia poncho accessories. Has anyone documented the different mold or colour variations for the hats and noted which come with which of the 2 different COO's? I have a bunch of Leia poncho figures all with their hats loose and I'm trying to work out what goes with what. It may not sound that bigger deal but a prototype figure was mixed in with the lot and I'd love to be able to determine which of the helmets came with the prototype and which came on the various production figures. Any help would be appreciated.
I know that Alex has done fantastic work on the different figure mold families and a while back I gave some input on some Biker Scout weapon variations and paring with specific card backs for a project Wolff was doing. Has anyone noted other accessory variations such as Leia poncho. i've noticed different mold numbers on the inside but otherwise i've not noticed a great deal of differences between the accessories for the 2 different mold families. Would love to here if anyone else has! :-)

Re: Looking for some help with some Leia poncho hats and other accessories
I just checked the cut bubble Canadian one that I got on Boxing Day I'm fairly confident that the guy just took the figure off the card for display and that this is the figure that came with the card.
Came on a "Made in Hong Kong" 77 back card with HG factory code on the back.
Lower boot COO
Mould circle on the inside of the helmet. Lighter green paint on the helmet in comparison to the helmets with the numbers stamped in them.
I just pulled my loose one out of the cabinet, and it's the upper leg COO with a #2 stamped on the inside of the helmet. I have a couple of extra helmets with #3 on the inside. All the numbered helmets seem to have the darker green paint.
Hopefully that helps?

Thanks Clint, that's very helpful. So the helmet with the mold circle is lighter and goes with the COO on boot and the helmet with mold numbers is darker and goes with the COO on thigh?
Would love to hear from anyone else on this to confirm, if they can be bothered!

Our Mould Family guru's are MIA at the moment. Hopefully they will check in soon.
Correct. The mould circle on the inside of the helmet, with the lighter green paint came with the COO on the boot.
EDIT: I just checked my Canadian Leia Poncho MOC (sealed one), and I can see the mould circle in the helmet, thru the bubble. But I can't see the COO on the back of the leg.
This also seems to be the same with my Lili Ledy figure. The only difference with the Ledy helmet, is the paint is glossy, where the Kenner helmet has matte paint.

This is my Ledy helmet picture from the library.

The picture James is showing, is from Chris [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. In the Kenner Library.

But seems to go against the theory. The figure he is showing, has a boot COO. Hopefully, Chris can let us know if this is his childhood figure, or he bought it loose & possibly with the wrong helmet?

Sorry for the slow response. Still struggling with this site on my iphone. I can log in and change to desktop mode on chrome but there are a bugs where part of my reply can't be seen or disappears after posting or doesn't appear at all
Thanks guys appreciate the help. I'll go back and check all my Leia poncho's tomorrow and see if I can work out what goes with what. I have trouble spotting the light versus dark green on the helmets but the mold circles and numbers help. I think the only way i can be sure is by looking at carded examples.
I'm particularly interested to find out more about the hat mold and colour variations and which figure COO they match up to but would also like to see if I can do the same with the belt, blaster and poncho if possible.

So mold circle matches with COO on the boot and that seems to be true of the Lili Ledy figure too which is great.
Chris's helmet is the anomaly so far. Wonder if it possibly got mixed up.

Here are the ones that I have to look at. It definitely is easier in the day light to see some of the paint differences.

I also had a quick look at the figure from the cut bubble moc. So in addition to the boot COO, & the mould circle inside the helmet. The back of the belt has a mould circle on both sides of the holster & a #2 stamped inside the holster. If you look at the LL link I gave you in a previous post, you can see the LL belt with the mould circles on both sides of the holster & a #4 stamped inside the holster. The belts with the mould circles, seem to go with the boot COO figures on all the examples that I have.
My loose figure from my cabinet with the upper leg COO, had the #2 inside the helmet. The back of the belt has "NO" mould circles at all, and has a #5 stamped inside the holster.
I'm shit terrible at trying to find the minor mould differences with figures and accessories. So hopefully some of the other guys will chime in and confirm or deny some of the info.

Re: Looking for some help with some Leia poncho hats and other accessories
OK I checked all of mine:
Carded sample - CR on thigh - No.3
Unpainted first shot - CR on boot - mold circle
Graded loose figure - CR on thigh - No.1
Painted first shot - CR on thigh - No.2
Loose figure - CR on thigh - No.3
Loose figure - CR on thigh - No.2
Loose figure - CR on boot - mold circle
So looks like the all the mold circles are paired with CR on boot and mold numbers are paired with CR on thigh which is great.
However my carded sample has a number 3 on the hat whilst my loose first shot with the same CR has number 2 and another loose figure that i purchased with it has a number 3. Since i purchased these together they could easily have been mixed up. But the anomoly here is that the carded sample figure with number 3 has a lighter green paint on the hat that is shinier and so does the loose first shot with the number 2. So I don't know whether to swap them over so the cared sample and first shot have the same mold number or keep them the way they are with the matching paint colour.
So does anyone else have any hats with mold numbers that are a lighter green and shinier?
Really want to be sure i'm pairing the right hat with the right figure :-)

Re: Looking for some help with some Leia poncho hats and other accessories
If the numbered helmets have a different shade of green, wouldn't that just indicated a batch to batch paint difference coming from the same factory? Or they thinned the paint for the spray guns differently that day? I would also think the numbers inside the helmets wouldn't matter much either, because they would have produced 6 or 8 helmets at a time & it just indicates the cavity in the mould? After painting, the helmets would have been put into a bin together. Only put in the bubble for packaging after they've been picked out of the bin randomly.
I only noticed the different shade of green difference between the mould circle helmets & the numbered helmets, and figured the colour difference is due to the different factories?

Re: Looking for some help with some Leia poncho hats and other accessories
Quite possibly. Although I had a handful of hats and that one stands out notably from all the rest and also matches up (I think) with the one on the carded sample. I would imagine the colours would match up, particularly as both figures are the same prototype with the non production light brown hair too. It has a different mold number though which threw me but I'm guessing that might be less significant so have paired it by matching colour instead. I'm not really an expert on the production process but I thought since first shots were made in much smaller numbers the differences in paint would be very minimal. Perhaps they used multiple molds still though. i don't know for sure.
I'm particularly trying to get this right because i hate the though of not having the right hat on the prototype even if the difference is very minimal. I wonder whether anyone else has spotted a hat with mold number that has a lighter and shinier green paint??

Re: Looking for some help with some Leia poncho hats and other accessories
I'll check to see if I have any other figures stashed away somewhere, that I can look at.
Oli, if you could upload some pictures, that might help. Maybe someone will notice something about the hats in question.
