Cool Retro Video Game Find
Dug up this pair of original 1989 GameBoy's in a massive and unorganized antique shop last week:

Both didn't work but I've managed to get one up and running and as clean as possible. Might need a donor for parts for the second one, but let's face it lol no one's trying to play that green, monochrome screen. It's all about the box here, yet it hurts the value if it doesn't work.
One other interesting note, one box was American and one was Canadian. Almost all paper inserts are present too.
I bought them for an amazing price so once I've got them both looking good and working I'll probably sell them as I've still got my original lol or maybe trade them for an nice snes with a couple games.

Got one working fine, fixed the screen on the second one. Boots up games fine but the speaker seems to be dead. Such a shame. Can't do much more without a doner. They both look like a million bucks and the buttons feel great though.
This is the one with the dead speaker:

Yeah even though it came out in 89 that model was on the shelf for a few years. I think I got a used one around 96.
Shockingly easy to take apart and repair compared to more recent models.

Nice find and congrats on getting it working Chris
Didn't Tetris come packaged with the original Gameboy, do you have many other games to play on it

Yeah the Canadian box Tetris and the US box had a Tetris 2..... which I assume someone incorrectly put in there at some stage. I think I will do better on the sale if I buy one more busted donor ($10) for a new speaker and just pick up an original tetris for it.
I had a Mega Man 2 and the game boy version of the NES Star Wars (the Scorpion Vader one) but I've got no idea what happened to those.
Tetris is really the perfect game for that machine because its arcade style short rounds, (depending how good you are) that way you get a hit of retro game nostalgia and don't have to look at that dark green screen for too long lol

Nice find I kept all my childhood video games. I was a Sega boy So many hours spent on the Game Gear and Megadrive (the Genesis for you guys in America).

It's really an offshoot of the "vintage toy collecting hobby" that you could really go down hard. I just got a little hit by picking up those gameboys. Sold one off pretty handsomely. Just got a "tri-wing" screwdriver to fix the second.
