modern life sucks

the old expression. things were better when we were kids is in fact true! anyone born after 1990 you unfortunately have missed out. i was born in.1981 thankgod and havnt been diluted with worldwide media and technology that has made modern teens/children lazy and unimagintive.

I have a good story.  My kids (more the older two, than the youngest) won't invite their friends over to our house, because we still have an old tube style tv (not a new flat screen).  And they are embarrassed by it.  If that's the case, I'll replace it when they leave.

I would be taking photos of the old T.V. and use their phones to send them to all their friends lol.

Now see my child hood was awesome as I was 11 when all the Star Wars toys first came out after seeing the movie. It is true though with the younger generation though everyone is just like zombies looking at their phones. I was doing a test drive a few weeks ago and seen a kid about 11 or 12 riding his bike headed to the main intersection just texting away.

My best friend has a little brother 18 years his junior, man, the kid is insufferable he live streams his sub-par video game skills, then goes on and on about limited edition basketball shoes, a sport which he has probably never played. Back on Thanksgiving he punched a hole in the wall when the internet was turned off for the day must be about 13-14 years old.

Working in education, I find it depressing how dependant the younger generation is on modern technology & frequently want to take short cuts rather than invest the time to do proper research. Some can lack basic social skills, show little respect and struggle to write proper sentances due to text speak. Some also act as though they have lost a limb when they are told they can't use their phones in class. I know I sound like I grumpy old git, but I worry about the future, as some of these individuals will be potentially running our countries. The 'I must have it now with minimal effort generation' is sad to see. Personally I don't call this progress.

I don't use any social media , still have a flip phone , refuse to text and hate seeing people with there noses buried in their phones constantly (I get furious when I see people doing it while driving) .

Totally agree. But I'm guessing every generation thinks the same way about the next generation....

I do though really mourn hardcopy photos. Was so much more meaningful when we had to develop our roll of films and wait to see how the photos would turn out. Now we can take 5000 digital shots of the same scene. Photos have lost their past value to me.

We still had a dvd rental shop here, till this summer. They finally had to close it down. But mostly because they are raising the minimum wage here, and they just couldn't make it work with paying the employees that much.
I would rent a movie, about once a month.

There are some small ones still in Sydney but I haven't seen one here in eight years.

i feel the same way as all of you . to be honest i wish sometimes all the technology would just go away . im a very outdoors type of person . im always working on my yard feeding the birds, fishing , shooting , and when not hurt golfing . i hate tv i tell the wife we only have it because of her . i grew up in the 80's and looking back im sure glad i did . kids today ARE DIFFERENT , technology has made them this way . its a shame because most that i know are socially awkward interent addicts that only care for their social media pages and video games . me like James has none of it . my phone is an iphone though  sorry bro . oh well nothing a bunch of us can do about the shape of the world except live the way we see fit .bring your kids up the right way and they;ll end up just like us (sorta)... man thats alot of bitching cheers

A student saw my phone today & in a loud voice said 'look at that Nokia brick'. Brick!!! jeeze they've obviousley never seen the mobiles that came out in the '80's.
