Toltoys Vinyl Cape Jawa ? Could use some help with this one ...
So after having a bit of a talk with a guy Facebook about a VC Jawa he is selling and him giving me some good advise for me to look into I desided to see what the rest here think about this one.
I copied the photo of the guys one he had for sale showing a Toltoys VC jawa. As some of you know I am a tad color blind so it's hard for me to really tell from his to mine. I also got the same blaster from what I can tell.
This is a Kenner one :

The one I have :

Link to the VC Jawa and the part that really made me wonder :

copied part of the text from the info site that got me wondering. One exception to this is the Toltoys Jawa that was sold in Australia and New Zealand. The capes on the Toltoys Jawas are substantially darker than those released elsewhere.
Thanks all
Larry

Hi Larry,
I don't have a TolToys Jawa in the collection but from what I understood the material used for the vinyl cape of the Tol Toys Jawa is close to (the same as?) the material used for Ben Kenobi's cape.
Stargeezer (Dennis) is an authority on this variant.
I would try to PM him to help you further in this thread.
Also some guys on Tantive have the TolToys VC Jawa in their collections. Hopefully they chime in and can help you further as well.
Cheers

I am far from a expert on Toltoys Jawas , and its hard to tell from your photo for sure , but it doesn't look like your figures cape is dark enough to be Toltoys
On top of that , I may be wrong , but I think your cape is a repro because it looks too thick to me
I hope I am wrong and that some more knowledgeable guys here can chime in with better information

I never payed attention when I bought it. It was only today when a few of the guys on a sw forum on FB were seeing things that I didn't which I need to look into something about the thum being different as well as when I was taking more photos I noticed there is no COO on the leg. How ever this goes I still only paid like $15 for it so it's a win win either way lol. The people I bought it off along with a bespin Luke said it was from their dad collection and they didn't know anything about the stuff. I am starting to think they really didn't I am hoping they are at the toy show again this year lol. I only bought the Jawa as I knew it was the closest I woyld ever get to one now I am glad I did it's a varient I would have to say .

The one you have is definitely not a Toltoys. The cape should be closer in color to Obi-Wan's, as was mentioned. As a side note, I wonder how many Toltoys in years past were tossed as "cut Obi-Wan capes", since the average collector believes dark = fake.
The bit about thumbs I wouldn't worry too much. Many people will replace beater figures with good accessories for good figures, and they're not always accurate to the original version. Every Toltoys I have seen, for example, has dark splotches on the limbs from degradation, so some would opt to put a Kenner Jawa with their cape.
I do agree with James though on the plastic thickness on that cape. The color is right, but the thickness seems a bit off. I couldn't tell from the pics - does it have that unique texture to it? One side smooth and the other with a very small cross-hatch pattern that "zips" if you run a fingernail across it? Another thing that makes me wonder authenticity - you found it from someone at a toy show? A real VC Jawa isn't likely to sit on a table long for $15.....
As well as Dennis, I suggest you track down Jason West on Facebook or other forums. He's had a Jawa focus for many years, and could help you in seconds.
Cheers, and I hope it's real.

not sure how I missed this thread larry, but to me the cape looks too thick and looks to have an almost leather like texture to one side?
so that combined with where you bought it, I would be inclined to say that it's a repro too.
The thumb thing I think refers to the correct mould family (coo), that the original VCJ belongs to. As well as having large round eyes, it has a longer, thinner sculpt on his right hand, I believe, which can be seen on the graded example in your first pic.

Re: Toltoys Vinyl Cape Jawa ? Could use some help with this one ...
I figured and pretty much now confirmed the cape is fake just stuck on the figure. I was fine with it being fake if it was the real deal it would have been the score of the century lol. Still $15 for a no COO jawa with a vintage weapon is pretty cool to find here in Victoria. The only other wild thing I ever found in this neck of the woods was a carded Palitoy ROTJ Biker Scout figure for $20 a few years ago so that was cool. Over all in pretty good shape aside from a crease across the middle

Bummer about the cape Larry, but the bright side is that if that blaster is legit, it alone is worth more than $15.
Nice score on the Palitoy Scout too.
