Christmas charity fun
First, a little back story.
For the last few years, the teachers at the school, where my wife works, they have sponsored a group home of mentally disabled seniors. Most of them have no family left.
Last year, the woman that normally organizes the Christmas present drive for them, was unable to organize it because she or her husband was sick. I don't remember why. Anyway, my wife stepped up and took charge. We decided half way through her buying the gifts, that we would donate what we would normally spend on each other, and use the funds to upgrade the gifts for good quality stuff.
Anyways, my wife came home last night all excited, and said the new wish lists from the seniors had came in. Because, one of the guys from last year has past away, they have a new resident on the list.
And low and behold, on his wish list is Star Wars items.
My mind is already putting together a small gift basket of vintage items. A couple extra picture books and some extra vintage figures. Of course, we are also going to buy a couple of new items for him as well, to add to the vintage items. I haven't been this excited in a while.
Anyway, that's my story for the day. Just thought I would share.

Thank James & J., for the kind offer, you guys rock. I should be able to put together a nice gift of vintage stuff, from what I have.
Because they have about 30-40 teachers and staff at her school, a lot of the funds and gifts are covered. They have to pay ($2 each friday, I think) to wear jeans on Fridays (casual fridays), and the funds go towards the gifts. They are running things a little bit different this year. The lists are posted for all the staff to see. So for the next few weeks, when any of them are out and about, doing Christmas shopping, they know what is needed and can pick up the items. Some of them have already donated items from the lists. And the funds are used to pick up the remaining stuff.
I think the list just said, Star Wars toys. I don't know if he likes new or vintage toys, so we are going to get some new stuff as well.
I just wanted to share my story of Star Wars Christmas joy.

I'm happy to make one or more donations Clint. I have also worked with adults with metal disabilities and understand how important providing support can be. I have both vintage & modern items available. Just let me know what is wanted.

Thanks for the kind offer Steve.
I was just sharing my feel good story. I shouldn't have any problems putting together a nice Christmas package, but if I run into any problems, I'll keep you and James in mind.
Maybe we can do something similar next year at TX1, when we have lots of members. There is lots of charities around the world that we could help out with a little donation.
