Lucky punch

Yesterday I was looking for a few figures someone is interested in and suddenly I had this little guy in my hand. He is far away from mint - a bit yellowed and the sticker has a little tear, but HEY it is an red rectangle R5 The guy who is going over the top at the Moment.
I really didn't know I already own one like this.  
Well normally I think  people who accidently find rare items in their collection are quite dumb, didn't the look their collections seriously before?
Think I have to reconsider this point of view.

Wow great find, congrats Dirk, that red bar R5 is a great little variant. Its crazy to think just a few months ago this variant would sell for around $30, now sellers are asking $150 for him
It just goes to show that the value of an item isn't so much about rarity, but popularity.

Yes Chris you are right it is an incredible Hype around this variant at the moment. And the Hype is more responible for the price than it's rarity

Thats the point a year ago you could easily find this guy for about $30 in a good condition. And now this one would be around $170,- And that is not because of the movie or because this variant is extremly rare. In my opinion this is a perfect example how some figures/ variants go through the roof because they were extremly hyped.

Would be a nice experiment to try to start such a hype for a random - not to rare variant figure, which nobody cared about yet. Could be Lobot with a specific belt mold or something like that.
Ideas appreciated.

I agree with the others that the price of this figure is inflated by an hyped increase in demand.

a few days ago I posted the idea to try to push White fur chirpas in a german FB Group. Background was an ebay auction for an graded pbp Hoth Trooper (buy it now $550).
My idea was to start buying White fur Chirpas all around ebay. At the Moment they are around $20 in Germany. In auctions I would go really high. So I will get them all. I'll take the best and send him for grading. Bring him back to ebay for maybe $500,- Everybody will laugh and nobody would buy. But he is still there. Meanwhile auctions about it will rise because I'll take them. People see that this an searched after variant which rises a lot. Collectors will spend even more in auctions to get this rare one. And they still see that a graded one is offered for $500,- WOW! Must be worth a lot this Little dude. Must be really rare. That's it. One day you'll sell the graded for $500 and the prices are that high, that you can give all your other White furs in normal auctions. They will sell very high. I really think, that is the way Hypes can be founded. Sounds funny but actually it is a sad matter.
