icy oklahoma !!!!!!!!!
Well you remember that Freezing Rain I mentioned last night Clint ?
It sucks !!!
So far we have actually gotten really lucky and haven't lost electricity yet (knock on wood) , but this is what happened about 2 in the morning ...
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
A very large dead branch came crashing down on Julie's poor little car
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I can't tell yet if there is any major damage but , other then the side window getting broke , I think its okay ...
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Luckily we have full coverage on her car so no big deal other then another bunch of messes to clean up .
Mary's house has faired pretty well so far but a big branch damaged the fence a bit ...
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Spent most of the day hauling branches from the back yard too ...
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Although the damage ice storms do sucks cock , if you try real hard and can get passed being pissed , they can be quite beautiful and interesting ...

That sucks about Julie's car window and all the tree branches. Hopefully you still have heat & hydro.
I hope that is it for the ice storm and you don't get hit again.

Thanks for the full weather report in Enid, James.
I have never experienced an ice storm before, and after viewing your pics, maybe we should keep it that way.
I hope Julie's car can be fixed fast enough.
Take care,

Re: icy oklahoma !!!!!!!!!
Damn Jim that really sucks, what happened to Julie's car and all the mess that you had to clear up
That's the weirdest kind of weather isn't it, freezing rain, I've not seen that before.
The weather rarely falls below +5 degrees c, during the winters here in Cornwall, but we do get very wet and windy weather. The sea can be very dramatic here when it is blowing a 50 mph northerly, but still nothing like the Tornado's you get in Oklahoma either.
I hope that the bad weather has not put you guys out too much and that you are able to get Julie's car window fixed quickly.

Jesus, that sucks arse!
THis is actually quite a rare phenomenon you know, usually only happens in places like Canada, watched a program about once, something to do with when the air temperature is higher than the ground temperature, so rain falls as rain but becomes ice on contact basically covering everything in a layer of ice, like you said beautiful, but dangerous as well.
Hope you get it all sorted dude.

Yeah it is uncommon here but we have went through it a few times . The worse I can remember was about 11 or 12 years ago - I myself was out of power for 4 days but there were parts of the state that were without electricity for 2 weeks . The ice was easily 2 inches thick coating everything .
Turns out there was quite a bit of dents on top of Julie's car . Couldn't really see them until the ice melted (last night) . We took it to the shop today and all together the repairs will be $3000 but luckily our insurance covers all of it but the deductible . They will fix the window tomorrow but it will be awhile before they get to the dents and other damage .
My biggest chore from all this is actually cleaning up all the branches that have fallen on the 3 properties . We have a lot of trees and of course the branches don't break smoothly so they have to be trimmed up and stumps cut smooth - rough breaks are a invitation to disease and insects and are very bad for the health of the tree . I really love my trees and try to take good care of them . Basically just lots of sawing , climbing trees and dragging branches to the curb
It's taken the last 3 days just to clean up the damage on our house and Mary's house .
Just going to take awhile to dig out from under all these branches

Thanks for updating us.
I am sorry to hear about Julie's car damage, but a good thing that the insurance is covering the damage.
Wish you much support cleaning up the branches

I can't believe that I missed this thread.
F*@K! That is some seriously freaky weather James. I can see the beauty of it (you have taken some great pics of the ice), but I'm sorry about the damage that has occurred.

sorry to hear that there was more damage to Julie's car than you originally thought Jim. I'm relieved to hear that it's all covered by the insurance though, even if it does take a while to get sorted out.
I can relate to the tree and brash work though buddy, its hard work, especially in the freezing cold, wish I could lend you a hand.

I told James, but the rest may not know. I lived in Oklahoma for a while and still have land there. I was living there when this happened. We were without electricity for I think it was 15 days, but can't really remember. Stupidly we did not have a natural gas heater in the house, just a natural gas stove. We had to use the stove as well as a kerosene Coleman camping stove as our heat source. Melting ice in the pots and pans for drinking water because without electricity the water pump doesn't run and we were on well water so had no city pressure. Shortly after the thaw I put in a glass line to the living room and put a gas heater on the wall of the living room. Moved back to Texas now, and don't want any part of that crap. Oklahoma is nothing but flat land in lots of areas and big mountains in others, but it seems the weather up there is icy every year. We get some in Texas, but usually melts off after about two days.
Sorry to hear about the cost on repairs to the wife's car though. That sucks. Glad insurance was full coverage and not just liability.

You want to hear some irony ?
I have been doing all the trimming with a hand saw
Yep - that's right one of the worlds biggest Texas Chainsaw Massacre fans and I don't have a working chainsaw (just one I use for a prop at Halloween)

That sucks man, get a chainsaw for Christ sake.
On another note, James I sent you a pm. I can post in the area, but the thread I was talking about isn't a locked thread so don't know why it won't let me post there. It was in the vintage figure area I think. Don't know the sections yet, but somewhere up above the library. Since all of the library is locked down I assume members can't post there correct? Is there a place that explains all of this and the different areas. Also found out because I had quoted a link in that thread that Alex made to show the swca that I can't post links for a certain time period because in the pm to you it wouldn't allow me to leave the link.
Here is the thread that reply I sent you via pm was for. https://www.tantivexi.com/t585-yak-face-the-offer-that-never-was-but-who-said-there-was-an-offer
It might be because the reply had the swca link in it, but it didn't say anything about that until I tried to pm you the reply.

Re: icy oklahoma !!!!!!!!!
sorry Bryan - you know I am a computer idiot so hopefully one of our smarter guys here can help . I am sure there are going to be a few bugs here and there but that is part of the reason for the early preview to a limited # of people . It will probably take us a few days to address everything needed and what works right for all new members . For technical issues it may require Marco or Jays assistance - I am just the court jester

Re: icy oklahoma !!!!!!!!!
Sorry to hear about the damage.
As I'm sure Clint can relate, being less than an hour away from me, ice storms are pretty common up here. We get a few every single winter. We tend to not get that kind of damage often, but it really sucks to leave your house for work at 6 am in the dark, only to discover your car is encased in ice a half centimeter thick. I don't think there exists a car owner up here who doesn't have a snow brush with ice scraper in their car during the winter, and hasn't had to use it for 10-15 minutes before they can even get out of their driveway.
I do agree though, that seeing trees, power lines, etc. encased in ice is a wonderful sight to behold when the sun is shining behind it. To me, it's a more wintery look than even snow.
